"Photopage for our guest dogs" "Kindergarten" Friends of the house
As some of you might and some of you might not know, Sweden and Norway are having quite strict rules for import of dogs. Shortly told, a puppy has to get its rabies shot (at 3 months of age at the earliest according to the law), and then after 120 days, a titer-test is run to see, if the dog meets the minimum level of protection required by the Swedish/Norwegian Authorities. This is only possible for dogs living in a Western-European country.
In the fall of 2000, as Tora came to us as a puppy in October, we also had a beautiful little female Akita, named "Keiko" come live with us. Keiko was about 3 weeks younger than Tora, and was brought up here together with him, while we were waiting for her to get ready to go to her owners in Sweden, Monica & Yngve Nilsson at the "Ängsmyrens" Kennel. Of course the two puppies being of almost the same age had a lot of fun together, and we were all sad - both Dennis, I and the dogs - as Keiko left us in May for going to her home in Sweden.

This spring (2002) we are again going to have a couple of puppies in the house - one again going to Monica & Yngve in Sweden, and the other one is to be co-owned by Britt Nyberg at the Kintos kennel in Norway (http://home.online.no/~kintos/), and Tina Gävert at the Milstolpens Kennel in Sweden (http://hem.spray.se/milstolpen/milstolpen.html ). We are so much looking forward to having them here for these 5-6 months, and we really hope that Ikiru and Tora are going to accept the puppies well, so that they can be in the house all 4 together.
Last year, Ikiru was being wonderful with Tora and Keiko... But back then she really missed having another dog in the house, and was so happy to have the two youngsters around. Now as she is living with Tora, she doesn't have the same need for company anymore... But yet I hope she will help me bring up the puppies, as she did so very well with Tora and Keiko last year.

Besides having dogs in transit, we (and Ikiru and Tora) have other four-legged friends of the house that are visiting us frequently - or whom we are visiting on a regular basis.
For instance my mother and father have a "Norwegian Lundehund" called Gorm. A month younger than Ikiru, they have known each other almost all their respective lives. They never really have played much, mainly because of the difference in their size, but I do think that they enjoy each others company - especially during the time, where Ikiru was a single dog, she enjoyed the company of Gorm, when we were walking them together. And now even with Tora in the family, all three dogs are doing just fine together.
My parents in law now have 3 Samoyeds and 1 Welsh Corgi Pembroke. The Samoyeds were Ikiru's playmates, when she was younger, so they do just fine together even now where the Samoyeds are getting older. The Corgi hasn't been around for quite so long, so Ikiru and her never really has gotten to know each other very well. But Tora finds her to be a most attractive little "thing".... On the other hand, Ikiru really likes the Finnish Lappinkoira of my sister in law, they have been playing together too - especially before Tora came along.
And then, last but definitely not least, there are our friends
Ann and René with their male American Akita, Gamba and their male Akita,
Kotei. Gamba and Ikiru were "mates" long before Kotei and Tora came
along, and they really like each other very much.... And even now with Kotei (3
months older than Tora) and Tora joining the group, all 4 dogs are getting along
just fine. Actually they do not play that much, when we are together, but
somehow it is obvious that they do enjoy the company of each other nevertheless.
We do a lot of things together - tracking, training or "just" walking
at the beach or in the forests. Or we meet at dog shows or
"gatherings", and everywhere when the four of them meet, it is so
funny to see, how they greet each other and clearly show that they are happy
for being rejoined. They are really very, very good friends (and we, the
2-legged are too....).
You will probably be hearing more about Gamba and Kotei, as they will be parts
of lots of the experiences, I am going to tell you about on these pages.
